Academy Program

“One important note about Tryouts/Callouts for the Terre Haute Premier Academy
Program: The Academy Program is for ALL interested players. We do not cut
any kids that want to participate.”

VCYSA/Terre Haute Premier Academy – U9/10 Age Group

Purpose: The Terre Haute Premier Academy is intended to transition the club’s young players from
recreational play to the more competitive travel program. The program is intended to be fun and help
build a passion for the game of soccer. Highest priority will be placed on playing small-sided games that
encourage skill-building and ball control. We encourage players to solve problems creatively and take
risks within the game.

Training: 2x per week during the season, with optional Winter training 1-2x per week. Training sessions
will be led by the teams’ coaches or licensed trainers that the club has partnered with.

Games: 6-10 regular season games (3-5 dates with 2 games per day) in the Indiana Soccer League (ISL)
in both the Fall and the Spring. Travel will be in-state and within 1.5 hours from Terre Haute. There will
also be 2 optional tournaments in both the Fall and the Spring, which will be played on
Saturdays/Sundays. This totals 12-18 games total between league and tournament play.

Coaches: The vast majority of our coaches are volunteers that we ask to achieve a Grassroots License
through US Soccer.

Rosters: The Academy is an all-inclusive program designed to create a pool of players for the U9/10 age
group. Depending on numbers, we may have enough players for 2-3 teams in both the Boys’ and Girls’
groups. Teams on game days will be rostered in such a way to make sure that all the games are
competitive and fun. Each game may have a different roster.

• Club Fees - $150/season – 2 Seasons per year (Fall and Spring) - $300/year
• Uniforms – Uniform Kits will be somewhere in the $120 range EVERY OTHER YEAR. The
Uniforms will be worn for two (2) full years or four (4) seasons and will include two (2) jerseys,
one (1) pair of shorts, two (2) pairs of socks, and two (2) practice shirts.
• Tournaments – Average cost is $35-55/player per tournament for non-club tournaments. The
Academy teams will play in one tournament in the Fall, and VCYSA will host one tournament in
the Spring that is free for all Academy players.

What does Academy Soccer mean?
• Academy Soccer is an introduction to travel soccer and not meant to be results driven. The ISL
does not keep track of scores for Academy games. Rather, the focus is on fun and development.

Does my child have to “tryout” for Academy soccer?
• We do host a tryout/callout for interested players. However, we do not cut kids from the
Academy program. If a player wants to play, he or she will be on the team.

Who is the Academy for?
• Academy is for any child in the U9/10 age group that loves the game and is interested in
developing their skills and a love for the game!

Can my child play in ONLY the Fall or Spring?
• Absolutely. You will only be required to pay for half of the club fees.

What are the expectations of the players?
• Have a positive attitude!
• Be respectful to coaches, referees, teammates, and opponents!
• Play hard and have fun!

What are the expectations of the parents/guardians?
• Support your player with positive reinforcement!
• Encourage your player to listen to and respect their coaches
• Refrain from talking negatively towards any players, coaches, or referees from the sideline!

What can I expect from my players’ Coaches?
• Positive reinforcement!
• Patience in teaching the game
• Knowledge of the game

Will my player play with all boys or girls or in a coed format?
• We offer separate Academy programs for boys and girls.
