Terre Haute Premier Season Reminder - Sideline Behavior
· VCYSA does not tolerate the harassment of Players, Referees, Coaches or Spectators. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED!
· You may be asked to leave and even be banned from attending future games for excessive or repeated offenses.
Terre Haute Premier Families:
As a youth sports organization, we pride ourselves on teaching our players sportsmanship, and all the values that go along with playing the game honestly and fair. We have the very highest expectations for behavior from our coaches, players, and parents/spectators, both on the field and off the field while representing Indy Premier.
Many of you exceed those expectations by being positive and encouraging role models that our young athletes can look up to and we thank you for doing your part to make this club great!
Our hope is to avoid unsavory incidents on our spectator and parent sidelines that fall below the expectation levels of behavior that we demand as a club. Some simple examples include:
- Use of Foul Language by parents/spectators on sidelines
- Threats of violence to other parents/spectators on sidelines
- Parents/Spectators being sent off from the sideline due to referee abuse
- Use of Tobacco/Alcohol around training and games
All these types of offenses result in Code of Conduct reviews, with appropriate punishments/sanctions enforced. It should also be noted that threats of physical violence and consuming alcohol on any school premises are illegal and could lead to more severe punishments outside of club control.
Please remember that the game is about the kids, and that our actions as adults on the sidelines are an important part of the soccer experience for the players.
DO - Set the good example. Encourage and Cheer for your players and their teammates at games
DO - Be there for them in tough times and enjoy the good times together
DO - Make soccer about them and their experience
DO - Help them learn lessons about sportsmanship, hard work, dealing with adversity, and teamwork
DON'T – Be negative or criticize from the sidelines. Respect opponents, teammates, other parents/spectators, and referees. It is very easy to criticize, but it takes energy and courage to be positive in competitive situations. Your player will see your positive attitude and will emulate you.
DON'T - Use post-game analysis in the car on the way home. Although many parents/spectators are trying to be part of the learning process they actually make the sport less enjoyable for the player. Learn more atwww.ilovetowatchyouplay.com
DON'T - Make soccer about you. When players and adults think back to game day, they should not be thinking about the off the field behavior of a parent/spectator. It should be about the players and the good/tough times they had.
DON'T - Be another Coach. They already have instructions from their coach (whether you can hear them or not!), and they already get consequences for lack of effort or indiscretions. They don't need additional instructions and additional consequences from anyone.
Please help us improve the environment for our players and set the bar high for expectations on the sidelines. We want everyone to have a positive experience within Terre Haute Premier and if you wish to stand outside of our norms and club culture we understand that a different fit may be needed.
Have a great weekend at the fields!
