Welcome to Vigo County Youth
Soccer!
I hope you enjoyed
our new Quarterly Newsletter. We are committed to increase communication to
our club membership. We have over 1,200 kids playing soccer with over 200
volunteer coaches. Last year we were the 5th largest soccer club in the
state of Indiana.
The Vigo County
Youth Soccer Association was formed over 32 years ago. We have evolved into
a major community sport. Soccer itself has evolved from a "foreign" sport
into an integral part of the lives of millions of children across America.
We are a member of
U.S. Youth Soccer; the national organization that oversees our branch of the
soccer community. Our state organization is IYS (Indiana Youth Soccer). It
provides local support for registration, state guidelines, travel soccer
leagues, coaching education, parent education, a great online resource
library and publishes many newsletters like 'In the Net' and 'Heads-Up
Coaches Newsletter'. Their website is
http://www.indianayouthsoccer.org.
In response to the
continued growth of our Club, we have built a beautiful new soccer facility
at the East Springhill Road. At the January Board meeting, VCYSA plans on
building new concession stand and rest-rooms this Spring and Summer with the
hope of moving the whole organization to the Springhill Complex this Fall.
No promises, just hope (we don't want to kill the new grass this Spring).
The new fields are part of our continuing commitment to provide our
community's children with a rewarding soccer experience.
All of this cannot
be done without people willing to invest some of their time and talent to
make sure these opportunities are available to all of our kids. If you are
interested in helping out, there are lots of things that you can do, such as
coaching, field duty, concession stand, painting lines, field marshal and
field development. I have tasked Rita Senseman , VP VCYSA, to increase our
volunteer numbers and hours by contacting our membership through phone calls
or email. She can be contacted at
rbsrks@aol.com.
Just
let us know if you are interested, or come to a club meeting. Our monthly
meetings are the second Wednesday of every month at the YWCA, open to the
membership. We recently formed a new Strategic Planning Group to set our
Clubs goals for the next 5 years.
The
success of VCYSA Soccer remains strong and continues to provide
opportunities for everyone who wishes to play in the club. Your support of
the club helps provide the best game possible for the kids as well as the
best fields, equipment, and organization.
Looking forward to seeing you at the games.
Wayne
Harpenau, President
Vigo
County Youth Soccer Association
VCYSA wishes to personally thank Lorrie Heber, System Director at Union
Hospital Health Group, for procuring these kits for us. Thanks also to Ward
Hubbard for his assistance in reaching out to Union Hospital.

U9 Academy - Giving back the
game. |
This past Fall
2007, all U9 Travel Soccer was played in an "Academy" format for league play
in Indiana Youth Soccer. This is different from the regular travel format
that has been offered in the past for this age group. The impetus for this
change is mainly to provide a fun and more positive playing environment as
these children transition into their first years of the travel soccer
experience.

Head Soccer Coach Vernon Croft Heading to Liberia
TERRE HAUTE, IN –
Back in September, the Indiana State soccer team along with head coach Vernon
Croft invited the local youth community to attend "L.A.C.E.S Day," where they
were encouraged to wear team jerseys or bring an old soccer ball to donate to
commemorate a program called L.A.C.E.S (Life and Change Experienced Thru
Sports). Croft will be taking the soccer balls and gear that was donated that
day across seas with him when he travels to Liberia on February 16-23.

Coaching Education
Periodically we offer coaching
clinics to further develop our coaches and in turn our players. The
following are the state administered courses we are trying to schedule on a
regular or semi-regular basis:
The Youth Module is specifically
geared to U4, U6, U8, and U10 coaches or coaches with no formal training.
E-license course: This
course is highly recommended for entry level coaches seeking certification.
